Anti-Gay

The Musings of a Frustrated Queer Who's Totally NOT Gay.

“It’s been ages since I last posted. Hiding from the from the fags as best one can can does take a lot out of one. Ran into this and other gems on the homo-online page. Food for thought.”

Our Way
At first glance, this trope appears sound and sensible. To the Normals (straight-jacketed homos), it probably is. In our ears, it rings tinny and false: more glib propaganda for the Cause.
There may not be “gay marriage”, but there certainly is straight marriage and we do not admire that institution. (Much less, do we wish to be subsumed into it!) Many argue that the fags will improve marriage by making it more liberal and less conventional, but why is that our job? We believe that the majority always wins out, if by sheer force of inertia. If you want it, go for it. Good luck! We turn back to our well-worn path.
In our bonds, we seek fulfillment, not a tradition rooted in subservience and oppression. We seek no laws to bind us, no fanfare to greet us, no words from outsiders to confirm “us”. A smile suffices and it’s done. We “marry” our friends, but only after years of love and trial. We may be bound to many, but we stick with them. For us, amity is an end in itself. Our ways are kept private. In a quiet place, we will whisper to a friend:
…I give you my hand!
I give you my love more precious than money;
I give you myself before preaching and law:
Will you give me yourself?
Will you come travel with me?
Shall we stick by each other as long as we live?
from The Song of the Open Road, Walt Whitman.
